Week March 9
你好! Hello! First Grade Mandarin Parents,
Thank you to those who have already sent in sanitizer supplies. I really appreciate it. This week, we discussed how we usually pay for the goods in America and some students shared how parents paid in China, Korea, India, Jimiad and South America. I also shared the ways to pay for goods in Taiwan. In math, we learned counting coins and numbers in different activities and we wrote math solving problem in Mandarin.
As you know we will close school for two weeks, beginning Monday, March 16th and continuing through Friday, March 27th. I will be sending out additional information regarding your child’s online, distance-learning schedule as I have further information. We have several students absent today and I have attached weekly homework as usual and extra assignments for future online learning materials and assignments. If your child is absent today, please print them out. Please plan ahead, to the greatest extent possible for your family, to have the resources and supplies needed to ensure these LTSC days are efficient and effective: computer/laptop/tablet with audio capability (microphone or video cam not needed), ability to connect to the Internet (wifi or device data), your child’s login information (most importantly for Google Classroom and/or Clever), paper, pencils, and if at all possible, a printer (please make sure to ensure you have enough ink/toner). If you do not have Internet connectivity, please reach out to me to make me aware; I will do my best to find alternative arrangements for work completion.
*Reminder: Report Card sent home today
Thank you for your ongoing patience as we all work together through this difficult time. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.
I wish you all good health and safety during the upcoming weeks!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hsu

你好!Hello! First Grade Mandarin Parents,
We discussed how to present Chinese New Year song by movement and dancing. They are so adorable and do an awesome job. We learned about emergency sound and we also tell the different sounds of ambulance and police car in America and China. That is interesting. Thank Mr. Welch for being Watch Dog and we love him.
In the coming week, we will make some musical instrument with recycled materials so we NEED empty water bottles and paper towel rolls. If you could help to collect them and bring them on Monday, it will be very helpful. In math, we will still work on writing time in half hours. Please let them practice telling time at home, especially in half hours. We also continue to practice addition and subtraction. In Mandarin, we will focus on Chinese New Year vocabulary and make paper lantern.

你好!First Grade Mandarin Parents,
We celebrated our 100th day of school by writing what we would do if we had 100 bucks. I am glad our students are kind and most of them would like to send it to family or the poor people. They are very helpful and nice. We also talked about their outfits for centenarians in Mandarin. This week, we learned how the light affected our life and we started talking about shadows(size, position and length). Our students can bring the flashlight next Friday and we will have an experiment in the classroom.
In the coming week, we will have a short week so we have no quiz in Mandarin. We will go outside to observe shadow and measure our shadow by our foot on the different times of the day. Hopefully, the weather will be good to observe the shadow. In math, we will continue partitions and measurement with manipulative. We will learn about telling time in hours. Please practice at home with your child to say in English and we learn in Mandarin soon.
